The experience

The day starts with Table Mountain, where the cable car takes you to the summit for an hour to walk the viewpoints, photograph the city and Camps Bay below, or grab coffee at the mountain restaurant. From there the route heads to Chapman's Peak Drive, one of Cape Town's most scenic stretches, with a 20-minute stop at the viewing point between Hout Bay and Noordhoek. Boulders Beach comes next: a penguin colony where you stand close to the birds and watch them move across the sand and water.

Simon's Town is the lunch stop. The guide shares the history of South Africa's Royal Navy and the story of a dog enlisted in the service, and you eat at one of the local seafood restaurants (lunch is your own cost). The final stretch takes you to Cape of Good Hope, the southwestern tip of the African continent where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, and to Cape Point Lighthouse, a historic site from the Dutch East India Company era. If ostriches aren't visible along the park roads that day, the route includes a quick stop at Cape Point Ostrich Farm.

An air-conditioned vehicle and a registered guide who speaks English carry the group through the eight stops over eight hours. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included if your accommodation is in Cape Town City Bowl, and you get a bottle of water during the tour.
