Step-by-step itinerary
Safari and game reserve visit
- Morning safari in Addo Elephant Park
- Afternoon visit to Kragga Kamma Game Reserve
The experience
The morning half centers on Addo Elephant National Park, where the 700+ elephants the reserve is known for share the landscape with buffalo, baboons, lions, zebras, jackals, hyenas, meerkats and a wide variety of bird life. The park's malaria-free status and third-largest size in South Africa mean the wildlife density is high and the health risk is low. Your guide handles the route and the commentary while you watch from comfortable transportation.
After a light picnic or restaurant meal, you move to Kragga Kamma, a small private game reserve within Port Elizabeth itself. This second stop lets you see animals not found in Addo: giraffes, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck, warthog and rhino among them. The reserve has its own restaurant and shop with African curios if you want to linger or pick up something before heading back.
Pickup and drop-off happen at your Port Elizabeth accommodation, the Colchester area, or the cruise ship terminal, so the logistics are already arranged. Children from age 3 can join, and the day suits all fitness levels, though it is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 11 years). Children under 3 can't be included in the booking.
How many elephants will I actually see at Addo?
Addo Elephant National Park is home to over 700 elephants, so sightings are common, though the exact number you encounter depends on where they are grazing on the day you visit. The park's size and the density of the herd make it one of South Africa's most reliable spots for elephant viewing.
What animals can I see that are different between the two parks?
Addo focuses on the Big 5 and includes baboons, meerkats and extensive bird life. Kragga Kamma adds giraffes, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck and warthog, animals not typically found in Addo, so the two reserves together give you a wider range of species in one day.
Is malaria a concern at Addo Elephant National Park?
Addo Elephant National Park is malaria-free, so you do not need antimalarial precautions for this part of the tour. Kragga Kamma is also located within Port Elizabeth and carries no malaria risk.
What happens between the morning safari and the afternoon one?
After the morning in Addo, the group stops for a light picnic or restaurant meal before heading to Kragga Kamma for the afternoon session. This break gives you time to rest and refuel before the second half of the day.
