The Big Seven live in one park, and you'll spend a full day looking for them.

A full-day safari in Addo Elephant National Park departing from Port Elizabeth cruise terminal, with an English-speaking guide, morning and afternoon game drives, and a traditional South African braai lunch cooked on an open fire. The tour is timed to get you back to your ship before departure, and refreshments are served throughout the day. Children from age 5 are welcome.

The experience

Addo Elephant National Park is the third largest in South Africa and the only one with the Big Seven: elephant, buffalo, lion, black rhino, leopard, Southern Right Whale and great white shark. You enter through the Southern Gate with a guide who works to locate game across the full span of daylight, so the morning and afternoon drives give you the best chance of seeing most species in the park. The drive covers different times of day, which matters: animals move and feed on different schedules, and a guide who knows the park can read those patterns.

At midday you stop for lunch: a traditional South African braai with three meats, salads, rooster brood (bread cooked over an open fire), beer, wine, fruit juice and mineral water. After eating, the game drive continues until 5pm, when you leave the park and head back to Port Elizabeth. Refreshments are served throughout both drives, and the whole tour is built around cruise ship schedules. You'll be back at the terminal in time for your departure.
