The experience
Hotel pickup starts the day, and the drive to Addo takes up part of the six hours. Once inside the park, the guide navigates the reserve roads looking for elephants and other wildlife. Addo is the third largest national park in South Africa, and the elephants here are known for allowing close viewing. They're calmer than elephant populations elsewhere in the country. Beyond the elephants, you'll have chances to spot the Big Five, plus buffalo, spotted hyena, zebra, warthog and numerous bird species across grassland, forest and other habitats.
The guide points out areas of interest along the route and explains the historical significance of what you pass. Light lunch is included during the day. Remaining time after wildlife viewing covers the return journey to Port Elizabeth.
