The experience
You arrive at Hotel Triglav Bled with a free afternoon and no plans to fill it. The wine cellar sits in the hotel itself, a historic space from 1906 perched above the lake: no travel time, no logistics. Danijel Galjot, a sommelier trained in WSET methods, leads the tasting and builds it around storytelling: each wine connects to a region, a winemaker, a tradition. You taste 3 to 5 wines, all Slovenian, many from indigenous varieties like Rebula, Pinela and Zelen that rarely appear on wine lists outside the country. Local snacks arrive with each pour, chosen to show how the wine tastes with food.
The tasting lasts about an hour and is designed for anyone: beginners and collectors alike. You learn to smell, taste and identify what makes each wine distinct, using the same techniques professional tasters use. The cellar holds over 200 Slovenian wines, so the selection changes with each visit. Small groups mean you can ask questions and the sommelier can adjust the pace to what the room wants to know.
