The experience
The Julian Alps sit above Bled, and the minivan picks you up from your accommodation in town, then drives to the starting point where the actual climbing begins. You'll spend the day moving uphill on skis fitted with skins, then descending the same terrain or alternate routes depending on snow conditions and what your guide chooses. The activity runs between six and ten hours depending on the route and the pace of the group, so you're committing a full day to it.
Your guide is a certified IFMGA mountain guide who speaks English and carries the avalanche safety kit, crampons and ice axe, all provided. You bring your own ski touring boots, skis and poles, plus warm layers, sun protection and water. The guide handles the route-finding, the safety decisions and the technical calls about snow stability. Your job is to keep moving and manage your own fitness across the climb and the descents. Bad weather or insufficient snow can cancel the activity, so the operator will confirm conditions before you go.
The minivan returns you to Bled at the end of the day. You'll get complimentary photos and videos from the guide, so there's a record of what you covered. Ski touring is physically demanding (you need at least moderate fitness and the ability to handle steep terrain on skis), but it's not a race or a technical climbing expedition. It's a day of moving through the mountains under professional guidance.

Top questions
What's the difference between ski touring and regular downhill skiing?
Ski touring means you climb uphill on skis using skins (textured strips that grip the snow), then ski down. You're moving across the mountain under your own power rather than riding lifts, so you cover more terrain and spend time in the backcountry away from resort runs.
Do I need to own ski touring equipment or is it rented?
You bring your own ski touring boots, skis and poles. The guide provides the avalanche safety kit, crampons, ice axe and all other mountaineering gear. Transport from Bled is included, but the ski equipment itself is your responsibility.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my tour?
The activity can be cancelled or postponed if the weather forecast is poor or there's not enough snow. The operator will confirm conditions before you depart, so you'll know in advance if the day needs to move.
How fit do I need to be for a full day of ski touring?
You should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The day involves sustained climbing and descending on skis across alpine terrain, so cardiovascular endurance and leg strength matter. The activity is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health or spinal injuries.
Does the guide take photos during the day?
Yes, the guide captures complimentary photos and videos throughout the tour, so you'll have a record of the day without needing to manage a camera yourself.
