At Lake Bled, the island sits in the middle of the lake surrounded by forest and Alps. Bled Castle perches on a cliff above it with views across both. You can row across the water in a traditional Pletna boat (a flat-bottomed wooden craft) and taste the famous Bled Cream Cake on shore: the boat ride costs 20 EUR per person and is optional. The castle itself is also optional, so you choose what to add when you book.

Ljubljana, the capital, sits 45 minutes south and is small enough to walk. The Triple Bridge connects Prešeren Square to the Old Town across the Ljubljanica River. The Dragon Bridge guards the city's symbol: a dragon statue at each corner. You'll see architect Plečnik's buildings scattered through the Old Town, the Ljubljana Cathedral with its bronze doors, and the food market if you want to eat. The drive back to Koper takes 1.5 hours.
