The Experience

You're sitting in the raft before the action starts. The Soca River in Bovec runs so clear you can see the riverbed — that emerald-green water is what people come back for. Your licensed guide runs through the safety briefing on the bank, then you push off. The next ninety minutes is paddling through rapids, the raft responding to every stroke, the water cold and alive around you. Halfway down, there's a house-sized boulder in the middle of the section. The jump is optional, but most people do it — your guide will talk you through it if you want to try.

The whole Bovec rafting trip starts at the Aqua Tours sports center on Cezsoca 71, where you'll change into your wetsuit, helmet, life jacket and neoprene shoes — everything's provided. If you don't have a car, pickup from your hotel, apartment or campsite is included. After the short ten-minute drive to the river and the safety briefing, you're in the water for the real thing: paddling, reading the current, working with your guide and the other people in the raft. The Soca doesn't let you zone out.

When you're done, the driver takes you back to the meeting point and you get changed. At the end of the day, free photos arrive on your email — shots from the water that you didn't have to ask for or pay extra to keep.
