Bovec Soca River Rafting: Class III Rapids & Rock Jumps
Paddle into the Soca's Turquoise Rapids & Jump Off the Rocks
You get picked up at the raft shack, driven to the Soca, and spend 90 minutes paddling class III rapids, jumping from rocks, and sliding down a natural water chute. The guide handles safety and timing; you handle the paddle. All gear — wetsuit, helmet, PFD, boots — is included. The drive back and a change of clothes at the shack close the half-day out.

The Experience
You drive ten minutes from the raft shack to the river, gear already strapped on — helmet, PFD, wetsuit — and the Soca appears suddenly, that impossible turquoise that doesn't look real until you're standing at the water's edge. The guide runs through the safety talk while you're still half-listening to the sound of the current, and then you're pushing off into the current and the noise takes over. Class III rapids come fast; you're paddling hard through the first one before your hands have figured out the rhythm, and the water's so clear you can see the riverbed rushing underneath. The whole thing moves at a pace that doesn't let you think — you're reading the guide's calls, digging the paddle in, feeling the raft drop and surge.
Around the middle of the 90-minute run, things open up a bit. The guide points to a rock outcrop and you realize what's happening — people start jumping. It's not a huge drop, but standing on wet stone with the current loud below is its own kind of decision. The water's cold and shockingly clear when you surface. After that there's a water slide, a natural chute worn smooth by the river, and you're sliding down on your back like you're eight years old again. Families do this all the time; kids who can swim handle it fine, and the guide keeps an eye on everyone. The Soca rafting experience doesn't feel like a theme park version of adventure — it feels like the river itself is the activity, and you're just moving through it.
By the time you're paddling the last calm stretch back toward the takeout, your shoulders know they've worked. You pull the raft onto the shore, strip off the wetsuit, and drive the ten minutes back to the raft shack. The whole thing — meeting the guide, the drive, the briefing, the 90 minutes on the water, the drive back — takes about three hours. You're wet and tired and your hands smell like neoprene, and somehow that's exactly what you came for.

How long is the actual time on the water?
75 to 90 minutes of active rafting, plus about 20 minutes total for the two short drives (to and from the river).
What's included in the price?
Wetsuit, boots, helmet, personal flotation device, guide, and transport from the raft shack to the river and back.
Can kids do this?
Yes. There's no age limit, but children must be able to swim. The guide assesses ability and adjusts the pace.
Is this class III or class IV?
Mostly class III rapids with some class IV sections. It's manageable for people with no rafting experience, but you need to be comfortable in water.
What if I can't swim?
Swimming ability is required. The guide won't take you on the water without it.
Do you get a photo from the trip?
Photo service is available; ask the guide about options when you arrive.
When should I arrive?
Meet the guide at the raft shack for a briefing before the 10-minute drive to the river. Exact times depend on your booking slot.
Is the water cold?
Yes — it's an alpine river. The wetsuit keeps you warm enough, but it's a shock when you first jump in.
