The experience
The tour departs at 9:30am from your hotel for eight hours on Mahe Island. You start in Victoria, the world's smallest capital, where the guide takes you through the colonial architecture: the court buildings, post office, and the Clock Tower, a twin of the one at London's Victoria Station. The colorful market is the focal point of the town center, with stalls of fresh fish, tropical fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices displayed in abundance. You'll also visit the Codevar building, where local artisans sell handmade crafts including the renowned Kreol Or jewelry.
After Victoria, you're driven across the Sans Soucis mountain pass to Mission Lodge, where Queen Victoria took tea during her visit to Seychelles. A photo stop here gives you one of the best panoramic views of South Mahe from a comfortable altitude. The landscape shifts as you descend into the southern part of the island, where lunch waits at a Creole restaurant serving local dishes. You then spend time at Le Jardin du Roi Spice Garden, walking through the gardens to observe indigenous fruit trees and spices growing in their natural setting. The day ends with a return to your hotel.
