The Experience
What animals will I actually see on a Bandia Park safari? The reserve holds giraffes, rhinos, a variety of antelopes, buffaloes, monkeys, crocodiles and tortoises across its 3,500 hectares—enough space that sightings are not staged or confined. You travel by 4x4 with a guide who knows where the animals move through the day, and the vehicle itself becomes your vantage point. The landscape includes huge baobabs, thorny bushes and lianas, so the setting is not a manicured park but a working habitat where the animals live.
The tour runs 4 to 5 hours and includes private transport from your hotel in Dakar or the surrounding area, so there is no waiting for a group van or navigating to a meeting point. Your guide speaks English or French and travels with you the whole time. Lunch can be added at checkout if you want to stay longer without breaking the day; without it, you move through the reserve and return to your hotel by early afternoon.
After the safari, you have the option to visit the Pink Lake or the Lions Reserve, each for an additional charge. These are separate from the main tour, so you can add them if the day still has room or skip them if the safari is enough. The reserve is wheelchair accessible, and infants can travel in a pram or stroller, though the terrain is open savanna rather than paved paths.
