The experience

The Edge of the World sits about an hour's drive from Riyadh, and the route there is half the experience: a 4x4 climbs through desert terrain that opens into cliffs overlooking the vast plateau below. Your guide handles the driving and the navigation, pointing out the geology and the history of the landscape as you go. At the rim, the views stretch across millions of years of rock formation and empty desert in every direction. If you book the sunrise slot, you arrive while the light is still soft. Sunset turns the horizon gold and casts long shadows across the stone.

On the way back toward the city, the tour stops at the Saudi Gazelle Reserve, where you watch the animals move through their habitat. The day ends where it started (at a place of your choosing in Riyadh) with traditional Saudi coffee brewed over hot coals and tea, a ritual that gives you time to sit and let the scale of what you've seen settle in.
