The experience
The tour starts at Sad Square (Starbucks meeting point) at 2pm and runs until 8pm, giving you six to seven hours in the desert outside Riyadh. A professional guide who speaks English, French or Korean travels with you in an air-conditioned 4x4, handling the route to Edge of the World and the bat cave stop. The vehicle is built for the terrain. You sit inside it rather than hiking, which changes what the day demands of you physically.
Edge of the World is a dramatic escarpment where the landscape drops away, and the bat cave is a separate stop on the same route. The guide shapes the itinerary around what you want to see and how long you want to spend at each place. Dinner is included, along with water, juice, coffee or tea and a snack, so you're not hunting for food in the desert.
The return is to the same meeting point in Sad Square, so if you're staying in central Riyadh or don't have a rental car, the pickup and drop-off solve the logistics of getting out and back. The air conditioning and the professional driving mean the heat and the rough roads don't wear you down the way they might in an open vehicle or on foot.
