  • Pause for traditional papanași
  • Resume game and protect city secrets

The Experience

You start whenever you want—there's no meeting time or group assembly. Download the Questo app, begin your mission as a medieval chronicler, and the game sends you toward your first location with a clue to solve. Each stop reveals itself only after you crack the puzzle: you arrive at a place, work through the riddle, and the app unlocks both the next direction and a piece of Brașov's story. Eight stops take you through the city's medieval core, from the Council Square outward into corners most visitors skip.

The game leads you to Rope Street (Strada Sforii), one of Europe's narrowest streets, where you'll squeeze through and uncover why it exists. You'll stand in front of the Black Church, Eastern Europe's largest Gothic structure, and solve why it turned black. The route also takes you along ancient defensive walls to Catherine's Gate and the Weavers' Bastion, showing how the city protected itself against invaders and fires. Between stops, you can pause for a traditional papanași (fried donut) or sit in a square without the app counting it against you—the game waits.

The whole experience runs about 110 minutes if you move straight through, but the timer is yours. You get 24/7 support through the app if a clue doesn't land or you get stuck, and the game works entirely on your phone with no physical guide, no group pacing, and no waiting for anyone else to finish a stop.

Top questions

Can I do this game alone or do I have to join a group?

The Medieval Brașov game is entirely self-guided—you play solo on your phone at your own pace. No group assembly, no guide, no other travelers attached to your mission.

What is Rope Street and why is it so narrow?

Rope Street (Strada Sforii) is one of Europe's narrowest streets, and the game sends you there as one of its stops. The riddle you solve at the entrance unlocks the history of why it was built so tight.

Entry tickets to attractions are not included in this game. The game takes you to these landmarks and lets you solve puzzles at their exteriors and public areas; if you want to go inside, you'd purchase admission separately.

What happens if I get stuck on a riddle?

The Questo app offers 24/7 customer support, so you can reach out if a clue isn't making sense or you can't find the next location. You can also pause the game and resume whenever you're ready.

How long does the whole game take?

The game is designed to take around 110 minutes if you move through all eight stops without long pauses, but you control the pace—stop for food, rest, or photos whenever you want and pick it back up.

Do I need any special equipment or app to play?

You only need a smartphone with the Questo app downloaded. The app guides you with clues, directions and historical information at each stop, and it works on both iOS and Android.
