Doha Desert Safari: Dune Bashing, Sandboarding & Inland Sea
Dune driving and sandboarding in one afternoon, ending at the inland sea
A four-hour desert tour from Doha combines dune bashing in a Land Cruiser with sandboarding, then a stop at Qatar's inland sea where you can see the Saudi Arabian border. The tour runs shared or private; private options add a camel ride. A live guide speaks English, Arabic, Hindi or Urdu, and the air-conditioned vehicle carries bottled water and coffee throughout.
Step-by-step itinerary
Desert adventure and inland sea tour
- Dune driving and photo stop
- Sandboarding in the desert
- Travel 45 minutes to inland sea
- View inland sea and Saudi border
The Experience
The day starts with dune driving—the Land Cruiser climbs and descends the sand at speed, and you stop at the top of a dune to photograph the expanse before you. Then comes sandboarding, where you ride the slopes on a board. After 45 minutes in the dunes, the route turns toward the inland sea, a shallow body of water that sits between Qatar and Saudi Arabia; the drive there takes another 45 minutes. The inland sea is where the tour pauses so you can stand and look across the border.
The vehicle is air-conditioned throughout, and the operator provides bottled water and coffee or tea at no extra cost. You travel in either a shared group or a private Land Cruiser, depending on which option you book. If you choose the private tour with camel ride, you'll spend time with the animals before heading back to Doha. A live guide travels with you and speaks English, Arabic, Hindi or Urdu, so language is not a barrier.

Is this one for you?Book the shared tour if you're comfortable traveling with other visitors and want the lower price; choose private if your group wants the vehicle and guide to yourselves. The private option with camel ride adds a different element to the desert experience, while the private option without it keeps the focus on driving and sandboarding.

What exactly happens during the dune bashing part of the tour?
Dune bashing is the drive itself—the Land Cruiser accelerates up and down the sand dunes at speed, giving you the thrill of the ride. You stop at the top of one dune to take photographs and see the desert stretch out around you.
Is sandboarding included, or do I have to pay extra for it?
Sandboarding is included in the tour price. You ride a board down the dunes after the dune bashing section, so both activities are part of the same experience.
Do I have to choose between a shared tour and a private one, or can I decide later?
You choose at checkout. The shared tour runs with other travelers; the private tour is just your group. One private option includes a camel ride, and the other does not, so you pick the setup that fits your day.
What languages does the guide speak?
The guide speaks English, Arabic, Hindi and Urdu, so you can book in any of those languages depending on which option you select.
Is lunch or dinner provided on this tour?
The tour includes bottled water and coffee or tea, but not a meal. Lunch and dinner are not part of any option, so plan to eat before or after the tour.
