Summary

Sail from Fajardo to Icacos for a day of sun, food, and Caribbean sea

You’ll sail from Fajardo on a spacious catamaran toward Icacos Cay, lounging on deck or splashing down water slides into warm Caribbean waters. Enjoy guided snorkeling with help from friendly crew, then feast on Puerto Rican dishes and sip unlimited rum cocktails as music plays. The day ends with coconut-passionfruit sorbet and that easy feeling you only get at sea.

experience

What’s the experience like?

Someone hands me a cold drink before I even find a spot to drop my bag. The deck of Getaway Too is wide and bright—way more space than I expected for a sailing tour near Icacos. Our guide, José, grins at my sun hat (he says it’s “muy elegante,” but I think he’s teasing). We’re barely out of Fajardo when the music starts up—some salsa, some reggaeton—and the whole boat feels like it’s waking up. There’s this salty breeze that sticks to your skin and makes you want to just sit back and watch the water flicker blue and green all morning.

I didn’t really plan on trying the water slide (looked more for kids), but after watching two abuelas shriek-laughing as they went down, I couldn’t resist. The Caribbean is warmer than my shower back home. Snorkeling was next—José showed us how to use the masks, and even helped one guy who kept fogging his up. Saw flashes of yellow fish under us; someone swore they spotted a turtle but I missed it because I was busy adjusting my goggles for the fifth time. So yeah, beginner-friendly is right.

Lunch came out just as everyone started drifting back onboard—plates piled with roasted pork, chicken, salads (the bean salad was way better than it looked), plus vegan pigeon peas for my friend who never eats meat. There’s this coconut-passionfruit sorbet at the end that tastes like summer holidays should taste. The open bar keeps going after lunch—rum punch seems to be everyone’s favorite—and by then people are flopped on sun loungers or swinging off those ropes into the sea again. You can hear laughter over the music, and sometimes nothing but wind and soft chatter in Spanish from the crew.

The way back feels slower somehow. Maybe it’s just that you don’t want it to end yet. Sunburned shoulders, sticky fingers from fruit juice—I still think about that view of Icacos fading behind us while José passed around one last round of drinks. If you’ve never done a catamaran tour in Puerto Rico before… well, this is what it should feel like.
