Two Hours Sailing San Juan Bay at Sunset with Drinks

You board a small catamaran, sail San Juan Bay for two hours as the sun sets, and drink complimentary rum punch or wine while the captain points out La Fortaleza and the San Juan Gate from the water. No shoes, groups of two to six, and you're back on land before full dark.

Step-by-step itinerary

Sunset sail and sightseeing tour

  • Board 37ft catamaran sailboat
  • Sail around San Juan Bay
  • View San Juan Gate from water
  • See La Fortaleza mansion from water
  • Enjoy complimentary drinks onboard

The Experience

The boat is smaller than you'd expect — a 37-foot catamaran that moves on wind alone, no engine noise cutting into the moment. You step aboard barefoot (shoes stay in a locker), and the captain is already pointing out where La Fortaleza sits on the water, the second-oldest executive mansion in the Americas, catching the last light. The sail fills almost immediately, and San Juan Bay opens up in front of you in a way the shoreline never shows it.

Complimentary drinks come around — beer, rum and coke, rum punch, sparkling wine — but this isn't a floating bar. The captain keeps it measured, and the focus stays on what's actually happening: the San Juan Gate sliding past, the old colonial waterfront, the angle of the sun dropping toward the water. Two hours sounds short until you're out there and realize how much slower time moves when you're not on land. The group stays under six people, which means no shouting over a crowd, no jostling for the rail.

Departure is 5pm from September through April, 5:30pm in the warmer months — timing that puts the best light right in the middle of your sail. You need to check in at least twenty minutes before, and minors travel with an adult. The whole thing is built around that narrow window when the bay is calm and the sky actually changes color, not just fades to dark.

What’s included

  • Your sail includes complimentary beer, rum and coke, rum punch, and sparkling wine served in moderation.
  • A professional captain guides the boat and narrates the sights — La Fortaleza, San Juan Gate, and San Juan Bay landmarks — as you sail for two hours at sunset.
  • Groups stay between two and six people.
