The experience
Ebru is an old technique where natural earth pigments float on water and respond to your brushstrokes in ways you can't predict or fully control, which is exactly why it works. You'll start by practicing on paper to learn the basic designs, then move on to the materials that matter: wood, stone, ceramic or fabric. Each piece you make is genuinely one-of-a-kind because the water won't behave the same way twice, and neither will your hand.
The class takes three hours in a natural setting on the island, surrounded by trees, which means you're not in a studio staring at four walls. You pick the colors from what's available, watch how they move across the water's surface, and decide when to lay down your paper or fabric to catch the design. Some people come wanting to make a specific thing. Most discover they're better at this than they expected, or they find out they like the accidents more than the plan.

What exactly is Ebru, and how is it different from regular painting?
Ebru is an ancient water marble technique where natural earth pigments float on water and move with brushstrokes, then transfer onto paper, fabric or other surfaces. The water's unpredictability is the point: each piece turns out different, even when you're trying to repeat a design.
Do I need any painting experience to join this class?
No. The class teaches you the basic designs from the start, beginning with practice on paper so you understand how the pigments behave on water before you move to the materials you'll take home.
What can I actually make and take with me?
You'll create finished pieces on wood, stone, ceramic or fabric during the three hours. These are the items you take home, not just practice sheets, but actual objects with your Ebru designs on them.
How long does the whole experience take?
The class runs for three hours, which includes learning the technique, practicing on paper, and creating your finished pieces on the materials of your choice.
