The experience
The caves of Ingrina and Barranco sit inside the Natural Park of Costa Vicentina, an area still quiet and free of the boat traffic that fills other Algarve spots. You start on land with a 10-minute lesson on paddleboard technique and safety from an ASI-certified instructor, then paddle out at a slow pace to let the landscape unfold: rock formations, grottoes, secret beaches accessible only by water. The paddleboard keeps you stable while you stop to photograph the cliffs and take in the scale of the place.
Once in the water, you move between the two beaches, paddling into caves where the light turns the water emerald and turquoise. At a couple of the smaller caves, you slip off the board with mask and snorkel to swim inside and explore what sits beneath the surface. The route also includes the option to jump from a cliff or two if you want the adrenaline. After roughly two hours on the water, you paddle back to shore. A guide shoots pictures and video throughout and emails them to you afterward.
All equipment is provided: SUP board, paddle, wetsuit, buoyancy aid and snorkeling gear. The groups stay small by design, which is why the pace feels relaxed rather than rushed, and why you can actually hear the water and the cliffs instead of competing with other paddlers.
