The experience
The tour leaves Cascais and climbs into Sintra, where you walk through Pena Palace Park and its terraces (the only stop where entry is included), then have time in the old town to see the National Palace and Quinta da Regaleira from outside, grab lunch, and buy the local pastries Queijadas and Travesseiros. The guide points out the Moorish Castle and Monserrate Palace from specific vantage points as you move through the town.
From Sintra, the route crosses the Colares wine region and its cork forests, then reaches Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of continental Europe. The cliffs rise 140 meters above the Atlantic, and you have time to walk and photograph the landscape. The return follows the coastal road with views of Guincho Beach, a stop at Boca do Inferno where waves crash against the rocks, and a final arrival in Cascais with time to walk the bay or head straight to the train station.
Your guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese and delivers historical and local information throughout the day. Hotel pickup and drop-off in the Cascais area can be arranged at checkout. Otherwise, the tour departs and ends at Cascais Train Station. The tour runs only from November to March.
