A live guide in English, Spanish or Portuguese leads groups of mixed ages (children from 6 onward). The activity requires moderate to good physical fitness and balance. The experience

The day starts at Lagoas de Grade on the Azere River, one of the most beautiful rivers in the National Park. You begin by climbing upstream, walking and jumping from rock to rock, then diving into pools as you move deeper into the riverbed. Once you reach the top section, the route shifts into soft canyoning: you explore the water itself, using natural slides carved into the rock face, jumping into lagoons, and swimming through sections where the only way forward is through the water. Every step follows the river's own path, and the landscape changes as you move: waterfalls, rock formations, and the biodiversity of the ecosystem reveal themselves only to those moving through the water this way.

The physical demands are real: you need moderate fitness and solid balance to navigate wet rocks, climb without ropes, and move confidently through water. The guide watches the group and adjusts the pace, but there is no way around the climbing, jumping and swimming that make this activity what it is. Children from age 6 can join, though they need to be comfortable in water and capable of the physical movement. The whole experience lasts around four hours, and you'll finish wet, tired and carrying a photographic record of the day: the operator documents the adventure so you can focus on it rather than on taking pictures.

You choose between river trekking alone or river trekking with pickup from your accommodation. Insurance and all safety gear (helmet, water shoes and wetsuit) are included. The guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese, so language is not a barrier. If you want a picnic during the activity, that can be arranged for an additional fee.

What's the difference between river trekking and soft canyoning on this activity?

River trekking is the first phase, where you climb upstream by walking and jumping from rock to rock and diving into pools. Soft canyoning is the second phase, where you move back downstream through the riverbed using natural slides, jumping into lagoons and swimming through sections where the water is the only route.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer to do this?

You need to be comfortable in water and have at least moderate physical fitness and balance. The activity involves swimming in lagoons and moving through water-filled sections, so confidence in water is essential, but you don't need to be a competitive swimmer.

What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?

The activity includes a photographic record of the day, insurance, water shoes, helmet and wetsuit. You should bring a change of clothes and a towel. The operator provides everything needed for the water itself.

How long does the whole activity take?

The river trekking and soft canyoning experience lasts around four hours from start to finish, including both the upstream climbing phase and the downstream canyoning phase.

Is the Azere River safe for this kind of activity?

The Azere River is one of the most beautiful rivers in the National Park and is used specifically for this activity. The guide leads you through sections chosen for their safety and beauty, and insurance is included as part of the booking.
