Step-by-step itinerary
Explore islands and local markets
- Ferry to one island
- Enjoy fresh seafood on island
- Visit Olhão Market
- Visit Faro Market
The experience
You start from your Faro hotel or a central meeting point and travel by private transport to the ferry dock. The boat itself is your transport through the lagoon, so the route and the ride are the same thing: six hours total, with the ferry doing the work of moving between stops. Which island you visit depends on the day's conditions and the guide's choice among Armona, Culatra, Farol or Desert Island, each one a small village built on a sandbar with shallow water on both sides.
On the island, you have time to walk around, see how locals live in a place reachable only by boat, and eat if you want to. The seafood restaurants there are affordable and the catch is fresh because the fishermen work the same waters you just crossed. After the island, the ferry takes you to Olhão Market, a working fish and produce market in the heart of the town, not a tourist version, but the place locals shop. The stalls change by season and by the day's catch. Then you move on to Faro Market in the city center, another working market where you see the same mix of vendors and shoppers. Both markets are walking stops, not long sits. You browse and move on.
WiFi is available on the boat, and the guide travels with the group in English, Spanish, Portuguese or French depending on the booking. Pickup from your hotel is included, so you don't need a car or local transport to reach the dock.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I choose which island the ferry visits?
The guide selects from Armona, Culatra, Farol or Desert Island based on weather and sea conditions on the day. You don't pick in advance, but each island is a working village with restaurants and a waterfront, so the experience is similar across all four.
Is lunch included, or do I pay for it on the island?
Lunch is not included in the tour price. The ferry stops at an island where seafood restaurants operate at local prices. You eat there if you want to, or you can bring food with you. Many travelers choose to eat because the catch is fresh and the cost is low.
How long do we spend at each market?
The tour stops at Olhão Market and Faro Market as walking visits, not extended sits. You have time to browse the stalls and see what's for sale, but these are working markets, not shopping destinations, so the stops fit inside the six-hour day without long waits.
Do I need to arrange my own way to the ferry dock?
No. Hotel pickup from Faro is included, so the tour collects you in the morning and brings you back after the markets. If you're staying outside Faro, ask about the pickup point when you book.
