The experience
The paratrike is a motorized trike with a parachute canopy. You sit in an open cockpit beside your pilot, not in an enclosed cabin. Take-off happens from the area near Portimão Marina, where you'll meet your pilot and go through a short safety briefing before climbing into the seat. Once airborne, you have a clear view in all directions: the golden beaches of Praia da Rocha, Praia do Vau and Praia do German pass below, and as you follow the coastline, the Ria de Alvor opens up. A coastal wetland that looks entirely different from the air than from the ground.
Weather and wind conditions shape every flight. The route may shift depending on what's safe on the day, and the exact duration can vary, though the flight typically runs about 15 minutes. If conditions allow, you'll see Ferragudo Castle perched above the water, with the beaches and cliffs framing it in a way no ground view can match. The pilot handles all navigation and safety. Your job is to sit, look and take in the perspective.

Is this one for you? This is a solo or couple experience. You fly with one pilot in an open two-seat cockpit, so it suits anyone wanting an unfiltered aerial view without a crowd. The paratrike's slow drift and open design make it gentler than a speedboat or helicopter, so it works for travelers seeking height and perspective rather than adrenaline.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What does a paratrike actually feel like in the air?
A paratrike is an open cockpit trike with a large parachute canopy overhead. You sit beside the pilot with an unobstructed view on all sides. It climbs and descends slowly, so the sensation is more drift than speed, and the open design means you feel the air and hear the engine clearly: very different from a closed-cabin aircraft.
Can I see Ferragudo Castle on every flight?
Ferragudo Castle is on the route when weather and wind conditions permit. The pilot will adjust the flight path based on what is safe on the day, so the exact landmarks you pass over can vary.
How long does the whole experience take from arrival to landing?
The flight itself lasts approximately 15 minutes, though the exact duration depends on weather and flying conditions. Plan to arrive early for the safety briefing and pre-flight setup, so allow an hour total for the experience at Portimão Marina.
What is the Ria de Alvor, and why does it look different from the air?
Ria de Alvor is a coastal wetland and lagoon system along the Algarve shore. From the ground it reads as marshland and water. From the air at paratrike altitude, you see the full pattern of channels, islands and the way it connects to the open ocean: a perspective that shows why it is one of the region's most beautiful coastal areas.
Do I need flying experience or special fitness to do this?
No flying experience is needed. You must be at least 18 years old and in at least moderate physical fitness. The activity is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, cardiovascular conditions, or pregnant travelers, as the flight involves exposure to wind and motion.
