The experience

You check in at the airfield, get geared up in a jumpsuit and goggles, then board a purpose-built skydiving aircraft with your instructor. The plane climbs for about 10 minutes, giving you unobstructed views of the Algarve coastline and mountains as you reach 10,000 feet. At altitude, the door opens and you step out into freefall, accelerating to 200 km/h for a 30-second rush before your instructor deploys the parachute.

The descent under canopy is smooth and controlled, with time to take in the landscape as you drift back toward the airfield. You land on the ground, collect your commemorative jump certificate, and walk away with the adrenaline still running. The whole experience, from check-in to landing, takes about two hours. Guides speak English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and two additional languages, so language is not a barrier.
