The Experience
You start with a hands-on driving lesson so you can mount the Segway confidently before the route begins. The staff walks you through the basics until you're ready to glide, then you move through Lisbon's charming streets at a pace that lets you take in the stops without rushing between them. The hills that make Lisbon steep on foot become manageable on the machine — you'll reach viewpoints and squares that would mean a long climb otherwise.
The route passes through Rossio Square, where vintage cafés line the central plaza; Chiado, the main shopping district with storefronts that still carry their 1920s look; Largo do Carmo, a jacaranda-shaded square built on the ruins of a Carmelite monastery; Arco da Rua Augusta, a triumphal arch from 1875 with city views; and Commerce Square, one of Europe's largest, sitting next to the Tagus River where the Portuguese royal palace once stood. You'll also pass Martim Moniz Square, Figueira Square, and the Campo de Ourique Market, known for its 15th-century architecture and food vendors. The itinerary can be adjusted for private tours.
A helmet is mandatory and a raincoat is provided. The tour runs one to two hours depending on which option you book. Public transport stops are nearby if you need to reach the starting point, and the route suits all fitness levels — the Segway does the work, not your legs.
