Taste your way through six Lisbon neighborhoods, learning the story behind each dish

A private food and wine tour through Lisbon where you taste 16 Portuguese dishes—seafood, meat, cheese and pastries—paired with local wines, Port and beer as you walk through Graça, São Jorge Castle, Mouraria, Rossio, Baixa and Cais do Sodre. Your guide, a local food expert, shares historical facts and tips on the city's best eats while you stop at viewpoints and landmarks including Lisbon Cathedral and the Church of St. Dominic. The tour runs four hours and includes pescatarian and non-alcoholic options if you request them in advance.

4h

Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Lisbon's food, wine, and sights

  • Start at Senhora do Monte Viewpoint
  • Visit Portas do Sol Viewpoint
  • Explore Alfama neighborhood and murals
  • See Lisbon Cathedral
  • Visit São Jorge Castle
  • Wander Mouraria neighborhood
  • Visit Church of St. Dominic
  • Explore Rossio Square
  • Enjoy sixteen food tastings and wine pairings

The Experience

You start at one of Lisbon's best viewpoints—Senhora do Monte—where the guide introduces the day's theme: why such a small country produces some of the world's best wine. From there, the walk moves through the city's most iconic neighborhoods, stopping at three different vantage points (Portas do Sol and Graça among them) that frame the Alfama district, the castle and the river. This is not a traditional food tour where you sit in one restaurant; instead, you move through the city, tasting as you go.

At emblematic Portuguese restaurants along the route, you taste 16 dishes paired with local wines, Port wine, beers and a famous Portuguese liqueur. One of these tastings is the dish chosen as the best seafood dish in the world. The pairings change based on what you order—seafood, meat, fish, cheese and pastries all appear across the tastings. If you eat pescatarian or prefer non-alcoholic drinks, tell the operator before the tour and they'll adapt the experience for your group.

The walk takes you through Alfama, described as a traditional village inside the city, where you navigate narrow streets and see city murals. You also stop at Lisbon Cathedral, built on the site of a mosque in 1147 and the oldest church in the city, and the Church of St. Dominic, a one-of-a-kind structure that has survived fires, earthquakes and other disasters. The guide fills in the history and architecture of each stop, so the neighborhoods and the food make sense together. By the end of four hours, you've covered six neighborhoods and learned how Mediterranean, Indian and African influences shaped Portuguese flavors.

Is this one for you? This is a private tour, so you move at your own pace with a guide who tailors the experience to your group—ideal if you want to taste Portuguese food and wine without the fixed schedule or group dynamics of a shared tour, and if you prefer learning the history and architecture of each neighborhood as part of the meal itself rather than as a separate walking tour.
