Your painted ceramic gets glazed and fired in the kiln after you leave.

A ceramic painting workshop in Braga where you paint a plate, tile or sardine-shaped piece after learning about Portuguese ceramic traditions, then enjoy a coffee break with cheese, fruit and sparkling wine while your work fires in the kiln. The class runs three hours with a maximum of six people. Children from age 12 are welcome, and dietary options (no alcohol, lactose-free, gluten-free) are available.

The experience

The workshop starts with an introduction to the history and techniques of Portuguese ceramics. The instructor, with over 16 years of experience working with clay, walks through the different approaches and explains the production process from start to finish, so you understand what happens to your piece after you paint it. Then you choose what to paint: a 20 cm plate, a 20 cm tile, or a 19 cm sardine-shaped piece, each one a blank ceramic ready for your design.

Once you start painting, the instructor is there to guide technique, but the design is yours. Midway through, there's a coffee break with cheeses, fresh and dried fruits, bread, and sparkling wine, or alcohol-free options, and alternatives for anyone avoiding lactose or gluten. You finish painting your piece during the session, and then it goes into the kiln. The glaze and firing happen after you leave. You pick it up later or have it shipped to you.

The class stays small by design: minimum four people, maximum six. That means real attention from the instructor and room to work without crowding. The space is fully wheelchair accessible, and the workshop welcomes children from age 12 onward.
