The experience

You drive a 2-seater buggy from the tour headquarters in Albufeira, not ride as a passenger. The route follows streets and dirt tracks where only off-road vehicles can go, staying at low speed throughout. A licensed guide rides alongside in their own vehicle, setting the pace and stopping at points of interest. The terrain takes you past Paderne's local farms and orange fields, then climbs to high hilltops where the views stretch across the region. This is where most travelers stop to photograph. From the hilltops you descend back down and head into the village of Paderne itself.

At Paderne Castle, you leave the buggies and walk along the castle walls to explore it from the outside, taking in 360-degree views while your guide explains the region's history. Afterward, the group continues to a characteristic café in the village for a short break where you can try a local pastry (food costs are separate). The tour ends with a drive back to headquarters in Albufeira. If you're sharing the buggy, you have the option to switch drivers partway through the journey at no extra charge.

Check-in happens 45 minutes before departure and closes 15 minutes before the tour starts. Arriving late means rebooking for the next session at 50% cost. Bring your physical driver's license: learner permits, provisional licenses, photos and app versions are not accepted. You'll also need to bring a 150€ cash or card deposit per buggy, which is fully refundable at the end of the tour. The weight limit per buggy is 250 kg combined.
