Step-by-step itinerary
Arrábida Natural Park and Galapinhos Beach
- Cross 25 April bridge
- Drive through Arrábida Natural Park woods
- Snack break between mountain and ocean
- Drive along Arrábida's beautiful beaches
- Visit Galapinhos beach
- Optional hike to Santa Margarida cave
- Pass by Sesimbra fishing village
- Return crossing Serra do Risco cliff
The Experience
The day starts by crossing the 25th of April Bridge, then the jeep turns into the dense woods of Arrábida Natural Park. You pass centenarian oak and cork trees, old vineyards and farms built into the slopes. The guide stops at a spot between the mountain and ocean for a snack and time to absorb the scale of what you're standing in—the park drops steeply to the Mediterranean, and the paths are narrow enough that a standard car would not fit.
The route takes you along the most beautiful beaches of the park, ending at Galapinhos, which European Best Destinations has classified as Europe's most beautiful beach. On the way back, you cross the old paths of south Arrábida and pass Serra do Risco, the highest limestone coastal cliff in Europe, shaped like a stone wave. A short hike leads to the cave of Santa Margarida, a place of geological interest and historical cult use, located in the heart of the park. The return passes the ancient fishing village of Sesimbra before heading back to your hotel.
The jeep is a classic cabrio 4x4 built for the terrain—roads here are rough and narrow, which is why this vehicle works and why the park stays relatively undiscovered. You'll need a moderate level of fitness for the hike to the cave and the uneven ground, but the driving itself is the main event. The guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese or French, depending on which you choose at booking.
What’s included
- Hotel pickup and drop-off.
- local guide in English, Spanish, Portuguese or French.
- bottled water.
- seven hours of driving and walking through the park.

What is Galapinhos beach like, and why is it considered Europe's most beautiful?
Galapinhos beach sits inside Arrábida Natural Park and has been classified as Europe's most beautiful beach by European Best Destinations. The jeep tour reaches it in the afternoon, giving you time to spend there before the return drive.
Can I walk around inside the park, or is it all driving?
Most of the tour is driving the jeep through the park's remote paths, but there is a short hike to the cave of Santa Margarida, a place of geological and historical interest located in the heart of Arrábida. This stop is optional and subject to availability.
What is Serra do Risco, and do we stop there?
Serra do Risco is the highest limestone coastal cliff in Europe, shaped uniquely like a stone wave. You pass it on the return route through the old paths of south Arrábida, and the guide will point out its geological significance.
Is hotel pickup included, and what time does the tour start?
Hotel pickup and drop-off are included in the tour price. The full outing takes seven hours, though the operator's materials do not specify the exact start time—confirm that when you book.
What should I bring, and is the jeep ride rough?
Bring sun protection and water; bottled water is provided. The jeep is a classic 4x4 cabrio built for steep, narrow terrain, so the ride is bumpy in places. You'll need at least a moderate level of physical fitness, and the tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or pregnant travelers.
