Benagil kayaking tour from Albufeira: caves and coastline
Paddle hidden caves and secluded coves along the Algarve coast
A combined kayaking and boat tour from Albufeira Marina that takes you paddling through turquoise waters near Benagil, exploring sea caves and rock formations inaccessible by land, followed by a catamaran cruise back along the coastline. The tour runs about three hours total, with roughly one to one-and-a-half hours spent kayaking, and includes all equipment, life jackets and a safety briefing led by an experienced multilingual guide.
The Experience
The day starts at Albufeira Marina with a 40-minute catamaran cruise along the coast toward Benagil, giving you time to settle in and take in the cliffs and rock formations from the water. Your guide briefs you on safety and technique before you transfer into your kayak—double kayaks are standard, though single kayaks are available on request. The boat ride itself is part of the experience: you're seeing the coastline from the water before you paddle it, so by the time you're in the kayak, you already know what's coming.
Once paddling, you follow your guide through turquoise water to explore sea caves, secluded spots and hidden beaches that only open up from the water. The Benagil cave itself is viewable from the boat only (local regulations prohibit entry), but the kayaking section takes you to other caves and rock formations along the stretch between Albufeira and Benagil. Sea conditions and safety always come first, so the exact route adjusts to what the water allows on the day. A full safety briefing before you launch means beginners paddle with confidence.
After the kayaking portion, you return to the catamaran for the cruise back to the marina. The crew is multilingual—English, Spanish, Portuguese and French—and stays focused on your comfort throughout. Food and drinks aren't included in the ticket, but a bar on board sells snacks and beverages for cash.

How much of the three hours is actually spent paddling?
The kayaking portion lasts roughly one to one-and-a-half hours. The remaining time covers the 40-minute boat ride out to the kayaking start point and the return cruise to Albufeira Marina.
Can I see inside the Benagil cave?
No—as of September 2023, local authorities no longer permit entry into the cave itself for safety and legal reasons. You view it from the boat, and the kayaking takes you to other caves and rock formations along the coastline instead.
What if I've never kayaked before?
The tour welcomes beginners. A full safety briefing happens before you launch, and your experienced guide leads the paddle. Double kayaks are the standard setup, which adds stability for first-timers.
Is food included, or do I need to bring my own?
Food and drinks are not included in the ticket price, but a bar on the catamaran sells snacks and beverages. Cash only for purchases on board.
What equipment do I need to bring?
All necessary kayaking equipment is provided, including the kayak, paddle and life jacket. Bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen and water shoes or sandals you don't mind getting wet.
Does the tour run in all weather?
Sea conditions and safety are the priority. The exact route and stops adjust based on the water and weather on the day of your tour.
