Summary

Benagil caves, Algar Seco cliffs and Marinha beach in one Algarve day

You’ll walk above Benagil Cave with a local guide, feel the Atlantic wind on your face along the 7 Hanging Valleys Trail, explore Algar Seco’s rocky pools, and finally unwind at Praia da Marinha with time for swimming or just watching the light shift across golden cliffs. This Algarve day trip from Faro is more about feeling than ticking boxes.

I didn’t expect to feel so small standing above Benagil Cave — the wind was salty and loud up there, gulls circling like they owned the place. Our guide João showed us where the rock had caved in to make that wild dome you see in photos, but it’s different when you’re right there, peering down through the opening. I could hear someone laughing below on the sand, echoing up through the hole. We followed a path along part of the 7 Hanging Valleys Trail, which is just rugged enough to make your knees notice it, but not so tough you can’t stop and stare at those cliffs for a while.

After that we rolled over to Algar Seco — João called it “nature’s playground” and I sort of get why now. The limestone here feels rough under your palm, all these weird little pools carved out by centuries of waves. There’s this spot called Boneca Cave with two windows facing the sea; I tried to take a photo but honestly it looked better in real life. Some of us tried cliff jumping (not me — maybe next time), but just watching was enough. The air smelled faintly of sunscreen and grilled fish from somewhere nearby.

Last stop was Praia da Marinha. The sand’s softer than I thought it’d be, almost powdery between your toes. João handed out towels and umbrellas like he’d done this a thousand times (probably has). It wasn’t crowded — just a few families and one old man collecting shells who nodded at us as we passed. I floated for ages in that clear water thinking about how places like this don’t really look like postcards when you’re actually there; they’re quieter somehow. Still think about that view sometimes.
