itinerary

Step-by-step itinerary

Day 1 — Explore Wroclaw's main attractions

  • See Saint Elisabeth Church and Jatki
  • View House of Old Stock Exchange and Salt Market
  • Visit Piasek Island and Piasek Bridge
  • Explore Cathedral Island and Botanical Garden
  • Visit Saint Martin Church and Holy Cross Church
  • See the Cathedral
  • On 2-hour tour, visit Grunwaldzki Square and Zwierzyniecki Bridge
  • See ZOO and Centennial Hall
  • Visit Japanese Garden, Iglica, and Szczytnicki Park

I didn’t expect to laugh so much in an electric car, honestly. The first thing I noticed was how the city smells different from inside — a mix of rain on cobblestones and something sweet from a bakery we passed (our guide Marek just grinned and said, “That’s paczki season”). We zipped past Saint Elisabeth Church, and even though I’d seen it in photos, the real thing looked taller — almost like it was leaning over us. The benches face both ways, which felt odd at first, but after five minutes you forget about it. Unless you’re sitting backwards and catch your own reflection in shop windows — that made me laugh.

Marek kept pointing out details I would’ve missed walking: tiny bronze dwarves hiding near the Jatki or the old Stock Exchange building with its faded stone lions. At one point he stopped the car so we could get out and walk around Salt Market Square; there was this quiet moment where everyone just sort of stood listening to church bells echoing between buildings. It’s funny how you can feel alone and connected at the same time in a place like Wroclaw.

We crossed Piasek Bridge onto Cathedral Island — everything got quieter there, almost muffled except for birds overhead. If you do the two-hour version, you get out toward Centennial Hall and Szczytnicki Park too (someone in our group tried to pronounce “Zwierzyniecki” and Marek nearly choked laughing). The weather didn’t matter much; plastic curtains kept us dry when it started to drizzle. I still think about that view from the Japanese Garden gate — all green and silver under the clouds.
