The experience

What made Breslau one of the oldest and most prominent Jewish communities in East Germany before 1933? Your expert guide walks you through the District of Four Denominations to answer that question, starting at the White Stork Synagogue: the center of Wroclaw's Jewish life and the only one of the two surviving synagogues you can enter. You'll see the hidden courtyard where the Small Synagogue stands, and learn about the New Synagogue, the second largest in Germany before its destruction on Kristallnacht. The guide also shows you where the Jewish Theater operated for a few years inside what is now the Polish Theater building.

On the 4-hour option, you travel by public transport (tickets included) to the Old Jewish Cemetery, now the Museum of Cemetery Art. There, your guide shares stories of the Jewish doctors, scientists, social activists and artists resting there, and explains the funeral customs and symbols carved into the stones. The 2-hour tour stays within the Quarter itself, letting you cover the main sites and the synagogue without the cemetery leg.

Pickup from your accommodation in the Old Town is included. The meeting point is next to the Kryształowa Planeta statue on Świętego Antoniego. Check your email the day before for any updates. Note that the White Stork Synagogue closes on Saturdays and Jewish holidays, and admission covers the building only, not temporary exhibitions.

Is this one for you?The 2-hour tour works if you want to see the synagogue and the hidden courtyard of the Small Synagogue without committing a full afternoon. The 4-hour option is worth it if you want to stand in the Old Jewish Cemetery and hear the stories of the people buried there, which the shorter tour skips entirely.

What exactly will I see inside the White Stork Synagogue?

Is the Old Jewish Cemetery worth the extra 2 hours?

Your guide explains the funeral customs and symbols on the stones and tells stories of the people buried there. It's included only in the 4-hour tour, with public transport tickets provided.
