Explore Warsaw Ghetto history and memorials

- Pass Umschlagplatz Monument
- Visit Mordehai Anielewicz bunker
- Tour outside of POLIN Museum and monuments
The experience
The tour starts at the physical remains of the Warsaw Ghetto Wall, built in 1940 to imprison over 400,000 Jews in overcrowded and brutal conditions. Your guide, raised in this neighborhood, walks you through the district's layout and shows you the fragments that still stand: among the most powerful symbols of World War II in Warsaw. The guide speaks from lived connection to the place, not from a script, and moves through the sites in the order that reveals how the ghetto functioned and how its people endured.
You stop at the memorial on Chłodna Street, where a wooden footbridge once connected the two separated parts of the ghetto above the street below. Jews forced into the district used this bridge as part of daily life under Nazi occupation. The Umschlagplatz Monument marks where deportations to Treblinka began. You also visit the Mordehai Anielewicz bunker, a site of resistance during the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Each stop carries the weight of what happened there, and your guide's knowledge of the neighborhood (its streets, its former buildings, its people) gives context that maps and dates alone cannot.
The tour ends at the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, located in the center of the former ghetto. You see the striking modern glass façade and the symbolic public square. The Monument to the Ghetto Heroes stands nearby, along with plaques honoring the courage and suffering of Warsaw's Jewish community. If you choose, you can continue with a self-guided visit through the museum's main exhibition, exploring 1,000 years of Polish Jewish history with an audioguide, but the walking tour itself ends here.

Live guide in English, Spanish and German.
What happened to the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II?
The Warsaw Ghetto was created in 1940 by Nazi Germany and imprisoned over 400,000 Jews behind walls and barbed wire in overcrowded, inhumane conditions. It became a place of starvation and deportations to death camps, but also of resistance, culminating in the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
Can I visit the Chłodna Street footbridge memorial on this tour?

What is the Umschlagplatz Monument?
The Umschlagplatz Monument marks the site where Jews were deported from the Warsaw Ghetto to Treblinka during World War II. It is one of the key stops on the tour.
Does the tour include entry to the POLIN Museum?
The tour ends at the POLIN Museum, and you can see its striking architecture and the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes in the public square. Entry to the museum's main exhibition is not included in the tour itself, but you have the option to continue with a self-guided 3-hour visit using an audioguide if you choose.
