Magellan's Cross sits in a chapel near the waterfront—a wooden cross planted by Portuguese and Spanish explorers when they arrived on March 15, 1521, now enclosed and preserved as the city's oldest Christian landmark. From there, the route takes you to the Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House, a structure built between 1675 and 1700 by a Chinese merchant named Don Juan Yap and his wife, Dona Maria Florido; the house stands as a record of the merchant families who shaped Cebu's early colonial economy.

The Heritage of Cebu Monument is a large sculptural installation made of concrete, bronze, brass and steel, depicting scenes and events central to Cebu's history. The Philippine Taoist Temple, built in 1972 in the Beverly Hills Subdivision, represents the city's Chinese heritage and community. The Basilica Minore del Santo Niño, the oldest Roman Catholic church in the Philippines, was built on the spot where the image of the Santo Niño de Cebu was discovered during Miguel Lopez de Legazpi's expedition. Note that sleeveless shirts, shorts and ripped pants are not permitted inside the church, so plan your clothing accordingly.
