The experience
Pickup happens around 10am from your Chiclayo accommodation. The tour starts at Huaca Rajada, the archaeological site where the excavations of the Señor de Sipán took place. You walk through the New Museum on-site to see the recently discovered jewels and artifacts before moving to the next stop.
Túcume comes next: a valley of 26 adobe pyramids built during the height of the Lambayeque Culture, with the residences of ancient rulers still visible. The guide takes you to Pyramid I, Cerro Purgatorio and the Mirador viewpoint, where you can see how the pyramids sit across the landscape. After lunch (which you arrange independently or follow the guide's suggestion), the day moves to the Museum Real Tombs of the Lord of Sipan in nearby Lambayeque. It holds one of the most complete exhibitions of the Moche culture discovery, with royal belongings and detailed interpretations of the iconography. The tour also includes time at artisanal workshops where you can see ceramics and goldsmiths making replicas of Moche works. You return to Chiclayo's main square around 6pm.
