Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum tour: Moche treasures & murals
Two royal burial chambers and a temple older than the pyramids, all in one morning and afternoon
A full-day private tour of Chiclayo's archaeological sites starts at the Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum, where two intact Moche rulers and their treasures sit in a three-story display built around the discovery itself. The route then moves to Ventarrón, a pyramid from 2,900–1,500 BC with the oldest mural on the continent still visible inside the original temple, and ends at Puerto Eten's coastline and an optional stop at Monsefú's artisan market. A professional guide in English or Spanish leads groups of at least two. The tour runs 7 to 8 hours with air-conditioned transport and all tickets included.

The experience
The Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum is the anchor: two burial chambers of Moche kings, a priest, and the objects they took to the afterlife (ceramics, food vessels, ornaments) all displayed across three floors in a building designed around the excavation itself. Photography is allowed inside, and the collection spans the Moche period from 200 to 700 AD. From there the tour moves inland to Ventarrón, one of the oldest pyramids in the Americas. What sets it apart is access: you enter the original thousand-year-old temple and stand in front of a polychrome mural that has survived five thousand years, plus friezes in high relief, the youngest of them four thousand years old. The preserved structures and the mural's color are still visible.
After the inland sites, the route reaches Puerto Eten on the coast, where the day shifts to the Peruvian coastline itself: a photogenic village with architecture worth the camera. An optional stop at Monsefú's artisan market closes the loop: local woodwork, embroidered blouses and skirts in vibrant colors, reed hats, and ceramics, all made by hand in the region. The guide handles the route and the timing. You cover the ground in an air-conditioned vehicle with a 600 ml bottle of water included, or the option to fill your own at the office before departure.
