Three wineries, two hours in the dunes at sunset

A 9 to 10 hour private tour from Paracas visits three Ica vineyards for pisco and wine tastings, then moves to Huacachina Lagoon for buggy rides and sandboarding as the sun sets over the desert. The tour includes private transport from Paracas, a live guide in English or Spanish, an hour of free time for lunch at a country restaurant, and entry to the desert. On Mondays, Hacienda Vista Alegre replaces Hacienda Tacama. On holidays, only the buggy and sandboard portion runs, shortened to one hour.

  • Tour El Arrabal farm and vineyards
  • Taste artisanal pisco and wine
  • Visit Huacachina Oasis and learn myths

The experience

Nine to ten hours takes you through the wine country of Ica and into the desert in a single day. You start at one of Peru's oldest vineyards (the hacienda dating to 1540 where the first vines were planted in the valley) to learn how pisco and wine are made, then taste both. Two more stops follow at working wineries where you see the artisanal production methods and taste again, with an hour free for lunch at a country restaurant between the tastings and the afternoon's desert work.

The Huacachina Lagoon, known as the oasis of America, sits in the middle of the Ica Desert. You ride in a buggy for two hours across the dunes and practice sandboarding on the slopes, timed to finish as the sun sets. Private transport picks you up from your Paracas hotel and returns you there when the day ends. A live guide in English or Spanish travels with you throughout.

Monday tours visit Hacienda Vista Alegre instead of Hacienda Tacama because Tacama closes that day. If your date falls on a holiday, the winery visits are replaced by the buggy and sandboard portion alone, running for one hour instead of two. Infants must sit on an adult's lap during the buggy ride. The tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy, or poor cardiovascular health.
