The Experience

The first thing I noticed was the sound — water splashing everywhere, echoing off the stone paths in Parque de la Reserva. We’d just hopped out of the van (our guide, Marisol, waving us over with this huge grin) and suddenly it felt like we’d landed inside some kind of moving painting. The air smelled faintly of wet grass and popcorn from a vendor near the entrance. I kept blinking at all the colors — blues, reds, even this wild green that made everyone look like they were in an old sci-fi movie for a second.

Marisol started telling us about how the Magic Water Circuit is actually the world’s largest fountain complex — I didn’t know that. People around me clapped when their favorite song played (I recognized one old Peruvian ballad from a taxi ride earlier that week). Afterward we wandered back through more fountains, my shoes squelching a bit because yes, I gave up dodging and just walked straight through one of them.
