The Experience

The day starts at Qorikancha, the temple where the Inca worshipped Inti, the sun god. Priests entered only barefoot, on an empty stomach and carrying a load as a sign of humility—the guide explains the ritual that governed entry to the most sacred place in the empire. From there, the route moves to San Pedro Market, a eight-minute walk south from Plaza de Armas but a world apart: vendors in traditional dress sell alpaca sweaters, fresh juice, plantains, local cheeses and the small dried foods stacked on the street. The market is where Cusco shops for everyday things, not where tourists usually go.

Sacsayhuamán sits on the northern outskirts, a citadel built from massive stone blocks fitted without mortar. The site includes the Moon Temple, carved into a rock outcrop both inside and out, and Cristo Blanco, a white stone statue built in 1945 by Palestinian Christians who had sought refuge in the city. Transport takes you to the viewpoint; the walking happens in the city itself and at the ruins.

The Inca Museum occupies a colonial house that once belonged to Huáscar during the empire and was built by an admiral in the early 17th century. Entry to the museum and all archaeological sites is guaranteed—no waiting in lines—and the guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or one of two other languages. Hotel pickup and all transport between stops are included, along with admission fees and taxes.

Top questions

What was the Qorikancha temple used for?

Is San Pedro Market a tourist attraction or a place where locals actually shop?

San Pedro Market is where Cusco residents buy everyday goods—alpaca sweaters, fresh juice, plantains, local cheeses and dried foods. It sits eight minutes south of Plaza de Armas and looks and feels completely different from the tourist center.

How much walking is involved in this tour?

Most of the walking happens in Cusco's city center and at the Sacsayhuamán ruins. Transport is used to reach the Cristo Blanco viewpoint and to move between the main stops; you're not hiking long distances.

Do I need to book entry tickets to the museums and ruins separately?

No. Admission to the Inca Museum, Qorikancha, Sacsayhuamán and all other sites is included, and you skip the lines at each one with guaranteed entry.

What languages does the guide speak?

The guide is bilingual and can lead the tour in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian or one of two additional languages, depending on the option you choose at checkout.

Is hotel pickup included?
