The Experience

Your guide meets you at Muscat airport and drives you to your hotel. If you land early, there's time to walk through Muttrah Souq or Old Muscat before the day ends. From there, the itinerary moves fast—by day two you're at Wadi Shab, where you'll cross a river by boat, walk through farms tucked between mountains, then swim through narrow rock passages to reach a waterfall cave. That same evening you head to Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve to watch green turtles nest on the beach, which happens at night and is the kind of thing you don't forget.

The middle section takes you through Sur to see the Dhaw wooden ship factory—craftsmen still build traditional Arabian boats using techniques that go back centuries—then into Wadi Bani Khalid for swimming in natural pools. After that comes the Wahiba Sand Dunes, where you drive 30 minutes off the main road in a 4WD to a desert camp. You'll watch the sunset from the dunes, sleep under stars, and if you want, ride a camel or take a quad bike ride the next morning (both optional). The guide drives you across the sand himself, which is different from being a passenger on a tour bus. You walk through villages like Misfat Al Abriyyin, which is built from mud, stone, and wood and has stood for around 700 years.

Back in Muscat for the final two days, you tour the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque (it holds 20,000 people and opened in 2001), the Royal Opera House, Al-Qurm Beach, and the Bait Al Zubair Museum. There's a two-hour dhow boat cruise along the coast from Bandar Al Rowdha Marina, and on the last full day you take a boat to Ad Dimaniyat Island to snorkel with turtles, fish, and corals. Lunch is seafood at a local restaurant. The guide then drives you to the airport based on your flight time.
