The experience

Six to eight hours gets you from your hotel in Ohrid to the summit of Magaro and back down. The guide picks you up, drives you to Lipova Meadow or Korita where the ascent begins, and leads you up the Galichica mountain. The trail is steep and sustained (this is a medium to hard hike, not a casual walk), but the view from 2245 meters settles why people make the climb. You see both Lake Prespa and Lake Ohrid at once, and the border between Macedonia and Albania runs across the landscape in front of you.

After you reach the summit and rest, the guide leads the descent back to Lipova Meadow, where the driver meets you for the return transfer to Ohrid. Water and a snack bar are included for the climb. The park entrance fee is covered, so there are no extra charges at the gate.
