The experience
The route moves through three Balkan capitals in sequence, starting with a drive from Skopje to Pristina to see the Newborn monument and walk Sheshi Nena Tereza, the main boulevard lined with cafes. From there the tour continues to Prizren, Kosovo's cultural capital, where the Sinan Pasha Mosque and the fortress above the old town frame a day of wandering medieval streets and watching filigree metalwork in the artisan quarter. The river cuts through the heart of the town under a series of bridges, and the medieval houses seem to lean toward each other across the narrow lanes.
Day two crosses into Albania and heads to Krujë, a mountain town built on rocky terrain about 560 meters above sea level. The Medieval Old Bazaar winds through wooden houses and is one of the oldest in the Balkans. Krujë Castle sits on a rocky hill above it. From there the tour moves to Tirana, where you'll walk Skanderbeg Square (surrounded by the National Museum, Opera house and the statue of the national hero), visit BUNKART (a nuclear bunker converted into a museum documenting the communist era), and explore Tirana Castle, now a pedestrian street where modern and traditional architecture meet. The Blloku neighborhood closes the day with its street food and restaurants.
The final two days take you to Berat and Lake Ohrid. Berat, known as the town of 1001 windows, is a UNESCO site where residents still live inside the castle walls. Walking the narrowed stone streets reveals medieval houses stacked on steep hillsides, ancient churches and mosques, and the legacy of Onufri, the famous Balkan church painter. Lake Ohrid, also UNESCO-listed since 1980, was named by the Romans as "the Light Lake" and sits at the center of North Macedonia's Orthodox heritage. The tour visits the Church of St. John viewpoint, the Church of St. Nicolas and the Halveti Hayati Tekke mosque. The return to Skopje closes the loop.

Top questions
What's included in the 4-day tour price?
Transport by car, international insurance, road taxes and petrol, hotel pickup and drop-off in Skopje, entry tickets to all sites visited, accommodation with breakfast for three nights, and a professional English-speaking guide are all included. Lunches, dinners and personal spending are not.
Do I need to arrange my own transport between cities?
No. The tour operator provides the car and driver for all four days. You're picked up at your Skopje hotel on day one and dropped there at the end.
What makes Prizren worth a full day?
Prizren sits at a crossroads of Illyrian, Byzantine and Ottoman history, and the architecture reflects all three. The river runs through the old town under multiple bridges, medieval houses line steep streets, and the fortress above offers a panorama of the whole city. The Sinan Pasha Mosque and the filigree metalwork workshops are distinctive to the place.
Can I book this as a private tour or do I have to join a group?
You can choose either a private tour for your group or a small group departure from Skopje. Both follow the same 4-day itinerary and include the same services.
Is Berat really called the town of 1001 windows?
Yes. Medieval houses in Berat's old town are built on steep hillsides with windows that seem to stack on top of each other, creating the distinctive look that earned the name. Residents still live inside the castle walls, which date back to the 6th-5th century B.C.
How many Orthodox churches are in Ohrid?
Ohrid is famous for having 365 Orthodox churches, said to have one for each day of the year. The city became an important center of Orthodox faith during the Byzantine Empire and remains so today.
