Step-by-step itinerary
Waiheke Island food and wine tour
- Enjoy views of Hauraki Gulf and islands
- Learn about Waiheke history and culture
- Visit up to 3 vineyards for wine tasting
- Have lunch at a winery restaurant
- Sample award-winning extra virgin olive oils
The experience
The tour starts with scenic stops across Waiheke's coastline (lookout points framing views of the Hauraki Gulf, Great Barrier Island and the Coromandel Peninsula), while your guide walks you through the island's history and current culture. From there you move into the wineries themselves, visiting up to 3 of the island's world-renowned producers (the operator rotates between Mudbrick, Cable Bay, Stonyridge, Te Motu, Goldie and The Batch depending on the day) to taste their wines in the settings where they're made.
Lunch happens at a winery restaurant in one of those spectacular settings, so you're eating and drinking in the same place the wines come from. Between the vineyards, you'll also taste award-winning extra virgin olive oils, honey and herb spreads: the kind of locally-made food Waiheke is known for. Travel is in a luxury Mercedes van with your guide handling the route and the timing, so you move through the day without managing logistics or deciding which vineyard comes next.
