The Experience

“You see that line there? That’s where the glacier used to reach when I was a kid,” our pilot, Pete, said as we banked gently above Lake Hawea. His voice crackled in my headset, but you could hear the pride — or maybe a bit of sadness — in it. The flight back took a different route so we saw even more valleys and glaciers — by then my phone battery had given up but honestly, I didn’t mind.
