The route starts with the university's original buildings, including the Marama Building with its ornate features, then moves into the Northern Cemetery, where William Larnach's tomb sits among the graves of architects, soldiers and ordinary people whose lives built the city.

You'll climb Baldwin Street, the world's steepest street, where Gregor has uncovered historical stories tied to the area itself. The railway station comes next—a stop inside the foyer to see the Royal Doulton tiled walls and the mosaic floor made from approximately half a million pieces. Queens Gardens follows, where Dunedin's soldiers gathered before marching to the Great War. High Street shows the surviving mansions of wealthy professionals, and then the route enters the "Devil's Half Acre," a district known for mischief and tragedy. Lunch at Luna Bar and Restaurant (not included in the tour price) sits off the typical tourist track with views across Dunedin; the operator supports this local business instead of busier tourist venues.

The final stop is Larnach Castle on the Otago Peninsula, one of New Zealand's premier visitor attractions. You'll take a guided tour inside with Gregor, who explains the tragic end to the Larnach family and the castle's restoration by the Barker Family.
