The experience

You're picked up from your Christchurch hotel or apartment and driven 40 minutes through the wine district in a private, air-conditioned Mercedes. Waipara Valley sits in North Canterbury and holds 74 vineyards across 31 wineries. The region is built on cool-climate wine making, which means the Pinot Noirs and Rieslings carry elegance and spice rather than weight. The valley also produces Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, each with a regional character you won't find elsewhere.

At each of the 4 boutique wineries you visit, you taste a quality selection of their wines. There's no rushing between stops: the driver manages the route and timing, so you can linger over a glass or ask questions about what makes a cool-climate wine different. Complimentary light refreshments are provided throughout the day. If you choose the gourmet lunch option at checkout, you'll sit down to a 2-course meal made from fresh local produce at one of the wineries, turning the tasting into a full afternoon experience.

The return drive to Christchurch takes the same scenic route back. You're dropped at your hotel or preferred location, and the whole day leaves you without a car to manage, a route to plan, or the question of how much is safe to drink and still drive home.
