The Experience

The coach leaves Amsterdam early, and three and a half hours later you're standing in front of the Atomium: that massive, gleaming structure that looks like it landed from another era. Then it's another three and a half hours on the bus to Bruges. That's the part people don't always expect. The driving is real, and it's long. But when you arrive, the medieval streets are narrow enough that cars barely fit, and the canals are exactly what "Venice of the North" means without being hyperbole. The Lake of Love (Minnewater) is where swans actually float past old bridges, and Mary's Bridge gives you the postcard view everyone wants. Your guide points out the Town Hall's Gothic facade and the bell tower, explains the history, and then you get free time again to wander, to sit by the water, to buy something you don't need. The return journey to Amsterdam is another three and a half hours, so you're on the bus from roughly 8am until close to 10pm, with guided stops and walking breaks breaking it up.
