The experience
The tour starts before sunrise (pickup time varies by season, confirmed the day before), so you leave your hotel while it's still dark. From Sarangkot Hill you watch the light spread across the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks, with Machapuchare (the Fishtail mountain) visible on clear days, and the Phewa Lake spread below. The vantage point fills with other photographers and travelers, all waiting for the same moment.
After sunrise, Mr. Thupten leads the group into a Tibetan refugee settlement where you walk the village streets and see how people live day to day. You're invited into a local family's home for a traditional Tibetan breakfast, where the guide walks you through each dish: its history, ingredients and place in Tibetan life. He shares the story of how Tibetans came to Nepal, the hardships they faced, and how they've kept their language, culture and identity intact despite displacement. This is not a museum visit. You're sitting at a table with people who live this life.
The final stop is a Buddhist monastery where young monks welcome questions about monastic education and daily practice. You can photograph the monastery and its grounds. The whole experience runs three to four hours from pickup to drop-off, with water, tea and coffee provided throughout.

Is this one for you?The early start and walking through the settlement mean you're on your feet before most of Pokhara wakes up, which is what puts you at Sarangkot for the sunrise and lets you move through the village while it's still quiet. If you prefer sleeping in or moving at a slower pace, this tour's schedule won't suit you.

Top questions
What can I see from Sarangkot at sunrise?
On clear mornings, Sarangkot offers panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges lit by the rising sun, plus the Phewa Lake below and often Machapuchare (Fishtail mountain) in the distance. The visibility depends on weather and season.
Do I eat with the Tibetan family, or just visit their home?
