The experience

Sarangkot is where the day starts: early, before the light breaks over the Annapurna range. The guide handles the route and the history: the mountains themselves, how they move people, the Gorkhas revered for their bravery across the world. From there, Phewa Lake and the Barahi temple sit on the itinerary, then the caves where water flows deep into an underground network beneath the city. The rock formations inside are natural stalagmites. In the fall, you can walk far enough to see the waterfall from the inside, where it disappears into the river below.

The Seti River carved the gorges that shape Pokhara's landscape, and a high hanging bridge gives you the vantage to understand it. The Peace Pagoda sits on a hilltop with views across the valley and Phewa Lake, and the tour times your arrival for sunset from the Buddhist temple. A hilltop temple dedicated to the sacred feminine follows, where you encounter the customs and rituals of Hindu practice. The day closes with the Tibetan quarter, where exiled Tibetan people have built a distinct community within the city.

The licensed guide travels with you in an air-conditioned vehicle for the full route. Food and drinks are on your own. The tour runs six to seven hours and leaves room for a meal or rest between stops if the schedule allows.
